So last weekend as you know now, I ended up doing 2 back to back races. A 1oK #NightRace followed by early morning 5K #YorkvilleRun. Both races were good and I did my PB in both. But now I can feel the symptoms of burnout. my Ham strings are like a Rock now so I am over using my Quads. This could soon go down spirally and end up preventing me from completing my half marathon #STWM. Here I am in week 12 of training and I was struggling to finish my 5K tempo run and I am seriously thinking of resting for a week. Its like catch 22 if I stop I might not be able to catch up and if I don't I wont be able to finish the training. I finished it and used the foam roller and hope it helps to make it better by tomorrow. This race after I ran a 10K yesterday night so I was not sure if would be good run. The last run ended quite late and din't get enough sleep so that made the me feel really bad about going to the race. It was really nice morning with mild temps in low teens which actually was good. The race went well I hit the PB for 5K again though I had wished to get under 30 it did not happen. I am still run out of breath need to keep practising more and more to get better time. I was a bit dehydrated to start the race but again as usual after the first 10K things were good. I still had to 10:1 a bit to keep heart rate reasonable. Here is how the run went. So I am down with 1st race of the weekend. The Toronto #Nightrace was fun at first I found the headlight we had to wear really annoying but once I got out of the crowd and picked a good pace it did not bother me. It was fun race lots of people with neon Pink and Green coloured T-Shirts and headlights lit up the Sunny brooks park. The race was really good I started with a really good pace and I think I did 1st 5 under 30. The 2nd 5K took a bit longer around 7K I felt like hell. Once I crossed 8K i was actually running at really good pace and it was really fast with short breaks in between. This probably was my best time for 10K. Next 10K I have to shave 8 mins to get under 60min time. The route was familiar and fun no steep hills just gentle uphill and downhill trails. It was bit crowed for so many runners doing a loop. But no accidents so it was great. More after tomorrow's Yorkville run So I was not going to blog about the race kits but then it started to rain and had to cancelled my plans. I picked my 2 kits one for tomorrow and one for Sunday. I know back to back races that too the Saturday one is in the night and Sunday right in morning. The race kit for Yorkville run really fancy. The way it was organized was not efficient not sure how they are going give out all the fancy boxes which are individually customised to everyone. Here are few more pictures of the box and contents. The contrast was the night race the sign up was less than 30 sec and I got a neon colored T-shirt with with a LED head light that I am supposed to wear while running. Its going to be a fun race. Here is the kit form that race. So its all set for weekend races, yes races I have 2 back to back. Not something I planned just happened to be so. I have a 10K planned for Saturday night and a 5K planned for Sunday. Today's run was 7K but the humidity just killed and my foot pod slipped and it was hurting as hell. Should have stopped and fixed that, now it still hurting hopefully rest fixes it by Saturday night. I tried the GU chomp it tasted good the run was too short too tell if it helps or no. I did not hurt I burped a few times but it was ok. I still need to try the Gel sometime before the #STWM. The heart rate was much elevated mostly due to humid weather and its good the weather on weekend is cooler. Todays run route also covered the Sunday;s yorkville run and so it was good practice run. I was hoping that as training reaches its end the hills would get easier. No way it's a horrible task and it was 7 repeats today which made life miserable. The run was good though going I was all under 6:30 and coming back was getting better every km. It was good run and I was happy to know next Wednesday it will be last Hill training. Than we switch to speed works which I am assuming is going to suck equally as well. This time I realized why people hate canoe over the Riverdale. It's a bit longer and seems like never ending one. Not much to write this week. One more thing that I notice the heart rate was a lot better today. Yesterday humidity made the run horrible today we had nice breeze which kept me cool and so the heart rate was lower than yesterday. The race day is now 6 weeks away. Today it was supposed to be a 5K tempo run. It was not bad run day it was really humid out today. I sweat a bucket of water. The Garmin 610 GPS again went bonkers invented a artificial route almost. I used the heart rate monitor today and the readings seemed realistic unlike my last experience. Not much to scribe today. Oh I returned my ON Cloud surfer and ordered the Cloud Runner, more when I actually get it. Today's run was planned to cover both start point of the #STWM race and finish. It was 16K and as usual Sunday morning blues slowed the race. I am not sure why I end up being slower on morning run's than evening ones. My current speculation is food. I eat a banana before my evening runs and it gives enough fuel to run. On morning run I am hungry and may be I need to fix that for my next run. Overall todays run was lot slower I spent 2hrs for 16K run. This is not really great pace but I am confident I can finish the distance now. It is not a good feeling yet but hopefully the next 4 or 5 weeks I can pace my self a bit faster. The route was good we went up University to Bloor and west on Bloor to Bathrust. South on Bathrust to MGT to Ontario street. We got back to Bay and did a loop around Richmond/queen and Univ. I use the concentrated gatrade with water but I ran out of both the bottles of my hydration and probably need to fix that somehow for training. Here is how the route was. Training for the #SCTWM is in full swing. We are set to 16K this week and today we went for a steady state 6K run. The route was same as last 2 Thursday and I can clearly see a difference. I am doing 10:1 and still managing a good pace under 6:30. It was a good run. I tried the compression sox today and I was worried initially when I twitched in the calves and was not sure if would be good. 5 Min's in it was gone and it was really good. The compression sox keeps the jiggle on calves down and so the wear and tear goes down. This definitely well help to keep the soreness of the muscle down to minimum. Here some data from last few thurday runs just to compare. Here is how the run was. I was really sceptical if I would be able to run today , as I had to lymph back yesterday. I ICE'ed it and rested the foot. Applied "MYOFLEX" before and I slept and calves were still stiff in morning. I even messaged buddies to see if they wanted to run hoping to bail out today. When I started it was totally different I blasted through the 1st phase to the hills. Lap time was 5.05,6.15,6:30 and no 10&1 it was all out flat running. Of course the lights helped out in between to get my breath back but it felt like I could do my PB in 5 today. It 3.5 to the hill site and it felt really good. I was supposed to 6 repeats at Riverdale. I knew this was lot stepper than Canoe place but bit shorter. Damn it was demoralizing just seeing it. I did 5 repeats and stopped my knees were burning like crazy. Heart though wanted to go one more round. Way back was good too all while I was under 6:30 pace which was really great I could literally sprint, the hill made legs so heavy that running of flats felt like I was flying. :) So all in all I understand why I was not able run yesterday, it was hydration and tempo run though it was slower than today irony ha. But water makes such a huge difference , I was running my tempo pace on way back form hills imagine that. It was fantastic hill run and feels good as I write this. I am sure soon the DOM's will set in and I will repent. Here is how the route was. |
